His movement is completely chaotic, meaning you just have to hope for the best and get lucky. Thoroughly weaponized, he ignites his blade at a tap of the screen and begins spinning and bouncing around the environment like a crazy fool, much as he did in the films. He’s not the wise, wee, sedentary master of the original trilogy, but instead the much sprier lightsaber warrior of the second set of movies. It makes for a mildly interesting mechanic, but I couldn’t get over the desire to squish Jar Jar’s annoying mug between my fingers whenever it appeared in my sling.Įven Yoda is a bit disappointing. It can also be used to grab loose objects – like explosive boxes – and pull them along. The fleshy pink strip that was once captured mid-flick by a quick-handed Qui-Gon Jinn can be anchored to an immovable object to make Jar Jar swing around it. You will, for example, find yourself launching an ugly Jar Jar bird whose tongue lashes out to grapple stuff. The big difference, of course, comes in the setting and primary heroes, neither of which are likely to inspire nearly as much nostalgia or reverence as those of the first game. The authentic sound effects and quick snippets of John Williams score that instantly shift players into Lucasfilm gear return, too. You can expect plenty of cleverly designed puzzles designed with an eye to make the most of the Star Wars motif, including levels bursting with blaster fire and hovering ships waiting to be shot down. Much of what made the original so much fun remains intact. Still, Rovio has done well with the hand they’ve had to work with. The sequel, however, fuses Angry Birds’ winning formula not with the pretty much universally adored original films, but instead the prequel trilogy, whose most devout fans are generally those yet to reach the age of reason. It was a synergistic nerdgasm of heroic proportions. Birds that looked like Luke and the gang armed with lightsabers and the Force did battle against stormtrooper piggies and a hog dressed like Darth Vader. ![]() ![]() ![]() It melded the very best elements of Rovio’s wildly popular puzzler – scores of quick, addictive, accessible physics-based puzzles – with some of the most cherished bits of George Lucas’ original trilogy.
